What is p/hop?

p/hop is a brilliant charity knitting project that raises funds for the incredible emergency medical aid organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

How does p/hop work?

Generous designers have donated their time and knitting & crochet patterns to p/hop. These patterns are available for you on this website. Browse of our extensive range of patterns – there are over 65 to choose from – and when you find one you like, download it.

You make a donation to MSF via our JustGiving page based on how many hours of pleasure you’ll get from knitting your p/hop pattern.  There is no set price for a pattern; you can donate 50p or £50. It’s entirely up to you!

How do I find the patterns?

This is the link to our pattern pages. We have seven categories of patterns:

Hats and headwear, scarves, shawls and cowls, kids knits, socks, sweaters, home and toys and crochet. You can look at the category of pattern you are interested in or see the whole range here.

Look out for the download your pattern button which will save a pdf file of your p/hop pattern to your computer or phone:

How can I make a donation?

Easily. You can donate in pounds, euros or dollars  here on our Just Giving page. You can donate on Just Giving using your debit or credit card, or paypal. Just Giving is a highly regarded and trusted charity donation website based in the UK. If you haven’t heard of it before you can find out more here.

This is brilliant! How will I know when new patterns are published?

To keep up to date with the latest p/hop news you can follow us on twitter and Facebook, join our friendly p/hop Ravelry group or keep an eye on the p/hop blog.

p/hop is based in the MSF UK office with a volunteer coordinator working in the MSF office one day a week. If you would like to get involved or know more please email Larissa.

How did p/hop start?

p/hop is the brain child of UK knitter and dyer, Natalie Fergie. p/hop has grown in leaps and bounds since it began at Natalie’s kitchen table in 2008 and includes p/hop swapping, knitting events and the one year birthday blog-a-long.

Community spirit

In recognition of p/hop’s community method of fundraising, we were awarded Most Creative Fundraiser by Just Giving in 2010.

Just Giving Awards

Left to right: Just Giving Awards 2010; Clare, former p/hop coordinator holding p/hop’s first pattern Flowers in the Rain; Natalie Fergie, p/hop founder holding the award; Pete, MSF-all-round-good-egg who learnt to knit and made himself an Arsenal scarf.

You can be part of this.

p/hop is a community project, run by knitters (and crocheters) for knitters and crocheters to benefit MSF’s life saving work.

Anyone can get involved and you are more than welcome to join in what we already do, such as yarn swaps, or come up with ideas to develop new knitterly ways to raise money for MSF.

Or, you can just enjoy the wonderful patterns!

Happy Knitting!
