Magical Socks
When I first heard of p/hop I immediately wanted to donate some of my patterns to the cause. Here was a wonderful opportunity to use my talents for a very good purpose in service of people in extreme need. So I reviewed my patterns and decided that the most appropriate candidates were my two childrens’ sock patterns, Socks for Little Wizards and Socks for Little Witches. Luckily p/hop agreed that these were good choices and took them on! I am very grateful they did as I get so much pleasure from knowing I have created something which is supporting sick and hungry people that otherwise would be without help.
I first designed both pairs of socks for my twin-sister who wanted to knit socks for her son and daughter and couldn’t find appropriately sized patterns. ‘Easy’ says me, and I dictated instructions to her. So the pictured samples were in fact knitted by my sister and modeled by my niece and nephew. The pattern presentation was a joint collaboration between the two of us. The pattern names? We are both members of a Hogwarts themed knitting swap, and anyone who is familiar with my work will know that I have been very inspired by this obsession!
Since donating the patterns to p/hop I regularly see folk posting their projects on Ravelry. Socks for Little Witches seems to be the most popular of the two and now has 30 projects linked to the pattern page. I am sure that this only represents a fraction of those that will have been made.
Now when I am at shows at which p/hop are also present I always pop by the stand to catch a sneak peek at my patterns and the knitted samples pegged out on the display. It gives me a little kick seeing them and I get a warm glow from knowing I am part of this wonderfully simple and effective project funding essential services to folk who are in desperate need amid the torment of poverty and war.
Thank you p/hop, and Happy Birthday!
