Fan of Fibre Flurry
I had been looking forward to Fibre Flurry for a little while – partly as it was fairly close to my home in Coventry; I was going with friends; and it was an opportunity to see yarn from a number of recommended indie dyers. I had bought my tickets in September and was impressed at the speed at which they had arrived and the professional design of them.
So on Saturday 30th October, my other half (who has recently started to knit) and I set off for Coventry rail station and met Karen. We all travelled on the train together and arrived at King’s Norton station and followed the sign posts (with fellow knitters following us). We got to the venue – St Nicholas Place – 2 beautiful Tudor buildings bedecked by balloons and went into the various rooms to inspect the goodies on offer. All of the stalls were beautifully displayed and there were plenty of notions, yarns, fibre, bags, spinning wheels and tools and vintage products on offer – an Aladdin’s cave!
After speaking with The Bothered Owl about a custom “man bag” akin to the Star Wars bag they had done for Jon of Easyknits, I bought one of their lavender bags, a set of parrot lego clips and a large Snoopy project bag. I also got two patterns from Ann Kingstone, some of Easyknit’s new bambino lace (Madonna shade), some High Fibre yarn and the biggest set of double pointed needles (12 mm)! Compared with most, I had actually been quite restrained but cooed and aahed at the yarn on over (and took down details of the websites!).
The venue, although small was beautiful and exploring room after room of goodies was a plus. The chill-out room was a great idea. I really enjoyed the day and it was fantastically organised (a refreshing change) and hope that it is repeated next year.
